When was the last good Will Smith movie?
#1
1998?

Looking at his IMDB:

Quote:2013 - After Earth
2012 - Men in Black 3
2008 - Seven Pounds
2008 - Hancock
2007 - I Am Legend
2006 - The Pursuit of Happyness
2005 - Hitch
2004 - Shark Tale
2004 - I, Robot
2003 - Bad Boys 2
2002 - Men in Black II
2001 - Ali
2000 - The Legend of Bagger Vance
1999 - Wild Wild West
1998 - Enemy of the State

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000226/

The list is pure shit all the way down to 'Ali'. And sure, Smith was good in the roll. Personally I didn't really care about the film though and I wouldn't want to see it again.

Bagger Vance was God awful.

I really, really wanted to like Wild Wild West but can't.

So... Enemy of the State, right? That film was fantastic.

I saw it again recently. Enemy of the State was actually awful.

It's been a few years but last time I saw it I thought it held up well.

So for you how far back doe it go? 1997 and the first Men In Black film?

Most of his movies are "agreeable." Bad Boys II is awesome.

I was going to say that was wrong. But then I checked IMDB. And you are actually completely right. Men In Black was his last, top to bottom, great movie.

I don't know if I've ever seen a Will Smith movie and gone, "wow amazing." The only ones I really enjoyed, just from a popcorn-movie standpoint was Men in Black and Independence Day. His movies always make a ton of money, but that is about it. Forgettable.

Hancock, I am Legend, and I, Robot were all entertaining.

I think 1998 is harsh. I, Robot is a good film. I guess some people may not like it as an adaptation, but just looking at it as a movie it's fun. Shark Tale is actually a decent kids film.

I don't know if I'd call it "good" because it has a lot of big flaws, but Men in Black 3 was entertaining. Also to be fair, I don't think Will Smith is the problem in any of his films. He just keeps picking bad scripts.

In parts. Not in whole. All three are deeply, deeply flawed, and all three have nearly disastrous third acts.

Is it last "unassailable piece of cinematic art?" Or is it "last good movie."

Most of the movies on the list are fair to good.
